Girls soccer: Elite eight time (and an editorial comment)

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association girls soccer tournament has entered the Elite Eight round. Here are the brackets for Class AA, A and D, with our surviving Section 9 champions.

Class AA – Saturday
Monroe-Woodbury (9) vs. Corning-Painted Post (4), at Johnson City H.S., 3 p.m.
Niskayuna (2) vs. Baldwinsville (3), at Stillwater H.S., 3 p.m.
Massapequa (8) vs. West Islip (11), at Adelphi University, 8:30 p.m.
Victor (5) vs. Clarence (6), at Niagara University, 6 p.m.

Class A – Saturday
Goshen (9) vs. Vestal (4), at Johnson City H.S., 12:30 p.m.
Jamesville-DeWitt (3) vs. Franklin Academy (10), at Fulton H.S., 1 p.m.
Garden City (8) vs. Islip (11), at Adelphi University, 5:30 p.m.
Brighton (5) vs. Williamsville East (6), at Niagara University, 3:30 p.m.

Class D – Saturday
Eldred (9) vs. Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. John (2), at Middletown H.S., 2 p.m.
Wheatland-Chili (5) vs. Ellicottville (6), at Niagara University, 1 p.m.
Chateaugay (10) vs. Chazy (7), at Plattsburgh H.S., 11 a.m.
Copenhagen (3) vs. Milford (4), at Vestal H.S., 2 p.m.

Regarding the state polls, inexplicably, Goshen was left out of the previous week’s poll, and this week the Gladiators (17-1-1) were restored to No. 9 – it had to be an oversight, right? – but how can you rationalize putting Goshen two spots behind Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, which had SIX losses, not to mention Goshen beat BHBL, 3-1, in an early season matchup?
By the way, BHBL lost 2-0 to Jamesville-DeWitt in the opening round on Tuesday.
Just ridiculous.
