Burke Catholic’s Nicolas receives Army, Navy offers

Garnett Nicolas never really considered attending a service academy before receiving college football offers.

John S. Burke Catholic’s junior running back’s first two offers came from Navy, then Army. Nicolas attended Army’s Black-Gold spring football game Saturday, which was also Junior Day.

“I’m definitely keeping my options open, so I’m not turning anything down or saying yes to anything right now,” Nicolas said. “But it’s definitely something I’m taking under consideration.”

Nicolas fractured his ankle five days before last season began, missing five games. But the 6-foot-1, 225-pounder played a prominent role in the Eagles’ run to the Section 9 Class B semifinals, recording 62 carries for 562 yards and 12 touchdowns in four games.

“I’ve always wanted to play college football, but I haven’t really started until the end of sophomore year, when colleges started contacting me,” Nicolas said. “But it’s always been the goal.”
