State girls golf: Tartaglione tied for 11th

Pine Bush’s Pasqualina Tartaglione turned in the lowest first-round score by a Section 9 golfer in girls championship history Saturday at Bethpage State Park’s Yellow Course in Farmingdale.

Tartaglione shot a 5-under-par 77 with 13 pars. The sophomore is tied for 11th place at the state championship, which concludes with 18 holes on Sunday.

Valley Central’s Tori DeGroodt opened with a 78 in 2010.

Carmel’s Lauren Peter fired a 3-under 69 and leads the tournament by one stroke.

Goshen senior Katie Biagi had two birdies on holes No. 1 and 12, both par-4s.

Ellenville’s Gabbie Budd birdied No. 14, a par-3.
