State golf: Rodriguez ties for 10th

Cornwall senior Ryan Rodriguez played the fourth-best round of the day in the final 18 holes of his high school career.

Rodriguez shot a 2-over 73 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca. The five-time state qualifier’s two-day score of 8-over 150 earned Rodriguez his first top-10, state finish.

Rodriguez, who tied for 10th, birdied holes No. 5 and 10, both par-4s. He had 13 pars in the round. For the tournament, Rodriguez played par-3s and par-5s at even-par.

After a 4-over 75 in the first round, Eldred senior David Powers carded a 13-over 84. Powers, a four-time state qualifier, had seven pars and three birdies in the second round.

Cornwall senior Ryan Rodriguez ended his high school career with the best finish in his five state trips.

Rodriguez fired a 2-over-par 73 in the second and final round for a two-day score of 8-over 150 and a tie for 10th place. Rodriguez’s 73 was the fourth-lowest score of the second round. He was even-par through 14 holes before a double-bogey on No. 15. Rodriguez had 13 pars and two birdies in the round.
