Dickson qualifies for U.S. Junior Amateur

Washingtonville’s Matt Dickson punched his ticket to the U.S. Junior Amateur Friday, firing an even-par 71 in a qualifier at Mount Kisco Country Club.

Dickson, who just completed his junior year at Washingtonville, finished second in the field of 80 golfers vying for three qualifying spots. He shot 2-under (34) on the back nine with birdies on No. 14 and 17.

The round continues a strong year for Dickson. He qualified for his first high school state tournament last month. Dickson shot a 4-over 75 in the second round and tied for 21st in the state.

Now, Dickson is headed to his first USGA major. The Junior Amateur will be played on July 17-22 at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kan.
