2017 state girls tennis first-round results

Washingtonville freshman Jalynn Balleste passed her first test in the state tournament, defeating Shaker’s Haejin Lee 7-5, 6-2 in an opening-round match Saturday at Tri-City Tennis Center in Latham.

Balleste, making her state debut, remained undefeated (20-0) on the season. She plays Great Neck North’s Amy Delman next in the round of 16.

Valley Central seniors Ali Dratch and Bianca Harris moved into the round of 16 with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Clarence’s Chloe Esch and Caroline Bolton in the first round.

Kingston eighth-grader Lila Shih Freeman, playing in her first state tournament, lost to Pittsford Sutherland’s Josie Libby 6-0, 6-3 in the first round. Cornwall junior Shirali Patel fell to New Hyde Park’s Steffi Antao 6-0, 6-0 in the first round.
