Brandon Powell joins 1,000-point club

Brandon Powell became the second boys basketball player in Pine Bush history to reach 1,000 points Tuesday in a 61-51 win over Clarkstown South in the first-round of Slam Dunk tournament in White Plains.

Powell scored his 1,000th point on the first of two free throws in the second quarter and now has 1,012 points.

Ben Saxton is Pine Bush’s all-time leading scorer on the boys side with 1,182 points.

Powell is averaging 22.4 points through Pine Bush’s first seven games and is on pace to break Saxton’s record. He can add to his total Wednesday night when Pine Bush plays Somers in the Slam Dunk tournament.

Bryan Powell, Brandon’s twin brother, is about 275 points from 1,000. He’s averaging 21.4 points per game.
