2018 Section 9 Division I wrestling semifinal results

Minisink Valley advanced 11 wrestlers into Saturday night’s final including junior 145-pounder Nick Albornoz, who defeated top-seeded Steve Gazzillo of Cornwall 6-2 in the semifinal.

Albornoz will wrestle teammate Vinny Vetrano, a 2017 132-pound section champion, in the final.

Minisink Valley senior Tim Ganuncio advanced to his second straight section final with a 5-3 win over Matt Bucci of Saugerties. Ganuncio scored the winning takedown with 10 seconds left in sudden victory.

Valley Central sophomore Matt Romano, the fourth seed and returning state qualifier, won by injury over top-seeded James Faison of Wallkill at 126. The match was stopped with 22 seconds left in the first period.

Monroe-Woodbury junior Sam Santander pinned Newburgh Free Academy sophomore Maxx DeCapua, the top seed, in 4:26 to advance to the final.

Valley Central junior 220-pounder Mark Crisfield is headed to his first section final after a 3-2 win over Anthony Owen of Saugerties in the ultimate tiebreaker.
