Strike Out Cancer Classic set

Newburgh Free Academy will host the three-game Strike Out Cancer Classic Saturday at Delano-Hitch Stadium.

Marlboro plays Pine Bush at noon, Monroe-Woodbury and Goshen meet at 3 p.m. and Newburgh Free Academy hosts Highland at 6 p.m.

The tournament was organized in support of Newburgh Free Academy senior pitcher Ryan Danyluk, who overcame stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma earlier this year. Each game will have players wearing a different color t-shirt to raise awareness to breast, colon lung, melanoma, pediatric and prostate cancers. The proceeds from the t-shirt sales will be donated to Sparrow’s Nest, which donates meals to families of caregiver and children diagnosed with cancer.

A moment of silence will be held before the Monroe-Woodbury-Goshen game and pink balloons will be released in memory of Kelsey Berger, the daughter of Monroe-Woodbury elementary principal Chris Burger, who recently passed away due to leukemia.

12PM- Marlboro (Home) vs. Pine Bush (Away) (Light Blue and White to represent Prostate/Lung cancer)
3 PM- Monroe (Home) vs. Goshen (Away) (Pink and Black to represent Breast cancer/Melanoma)
6 PM- NFA (Home) vs. Highland (Away) (Gold and Dark Blue to represent Pediatric/Colon cancer)
Each game will have players wearing a different color (as noted above) t-shirt to raise awareness to those cancers. The proceeds from the sales of these shirts will be donated to Sparrow’s Nest Charity!
Furthermore, we will be holding a moment of silence and releasing pink balloons in honor of Kelsey Berger who just passed away on Tuesdayfrom Leukemia. She was the daughter of Chris Berger who is an elementary principal in the Monroe school district. This will take place before the Monroe-Goshen game at 3PM. This tournament was organized in support of NFA student and baseball player Ryan Danyluk whom you have covered his story throughout- and he will be the starting pitcher that day for NFA!
