2018 Varsity 845 Baseball All Stars Wrap

Marlboro junior Sam Mongelli was the toughest hitter in Section 9 to get out this spring.

Mongelli’s .517 average led the area and the shortstop struck out just once in 60 at-bats.

Mongelli, the Varsity 845 player of the year, wasn’t too shabby on the mound either, earning a 4-0 record with 39 strikeouts in 24 innings.  Read our profile on Mongelli here.

Tom Fanning continued to raise the bar in Cornwall’s offseason training, adding fall hitting and hot yoga classes to improve stretching and flexibility. All the work paid off as Fanning led Cornwall to its first Section 9 Class A title since 2013. Fanning joined his assistant Guy Maisonet as a two-time Varsity 845 Coach of the Year. Read Fanning’s profile here.

Kingston junior shortstop Fritz Genther and Chester senior outfielder Johnny Hipsman was selected to the first team for the second straight year. Check out our first-team profile and who made our second team here.
