All-State Baseball: Cornwall senior Ryan Trieste makes Class A first team

Ryan Trieste may have been Section 9’s most improved baseball player this spring.

Trieste increased his average by 122 points to .382 and drove in 32 runs, up from 10 in 2017.

Trieste’s strides were recognized¬† Thursday when it was announced that Cornwall’s senior second baseman had made the state Class A first-team.

Trieste was one of 14 area all-state selections.

Kingston junior shortstop Fritz Genther, Burke Catholic catcher/pitcher Nelson Arroyo and S.S. Seward senior shortstop Chris Rahm were named to the second team in Class AA, Class B and Class C respectively.

Marlboro junior shortstop/pitcher Sam Mongelli, the Varsity 845 player of the year, was a Class B third-team pick.

The following players also received all-state recognition: Tuxedo junior pitcher Joe Castellanos (third team, Class D), Kingston junior pitcher Joe Ferrer (third team, Class AA), Goshen senior outfielder Rob Hensey (third team, Class A); Cornwall senior outfielder/pitcher Matt Krafft (fourth team, Class A), Middletown sophomore pitcher Kelvin Marte (fourth team, Class AA), Pine Bush junior third baseman/pitcher Logan DeVries (fifth team, Class AA), Saugerties sophomore first base Ty Gallagher (fifth team, Class A), Cornwall senior catcher Ian Engenito (sixth team, Class A) and Pine Bush junior outfielder Haakon Meland (sixth team, Class AA)
