Bryan Powell commits to Pace

Bryan Powell, the 2018 Varsity 845 player of the year, will begin his college basketball career where his high school career came to a close.

Powell, a Canterbury (Conn.) Prep forward and 2018 Pine Bush graduate, announced his commitment to Division II Pace Wednesday.

Powell played one of his best prep games at Pace’s Goldstein Fitness Center, scoring 25 points and adding 10 rebounds and five blocks in a 2018 state Class AA quarterfinal against Mount Vernon.

The 6-foot-6 forward received interest from Division I schools after leading Canterbury in scoring (15.5) and rebounds (6.8) but Powell couldn’t pass up Pace’s offer. Powell said he will be on full scholarship after his freshman season. Pace is covering most of Powell’s tuition his first year.
