Softball: Pine Bush pushes toward playoffs

Pine Bush increased its playoff chances with an important 5-3 OCIAA Division II win over Valley Central Monday.

Senior Jada Bjaelker drew a bases-loaded walk to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning and sophomore Jessica Fowler followed with an RBI single.

Kayla Consolo pitched four innings of scoreless relief as Pine Bush earned its third victory of the season and improved to 2-3 in division. Pine Bush needs to win at Washingtonville Friday or at Warwick May 15 to secure a postseason berth.

Pine Bush’s 3-11 record is slightly deceiving. Coach Mike Mancuso said his team has held the lead in nine of its 14 games.

Fowler said after the game she hopes Monday’s win can provided Pine Bush with some momentum heading into its final six games of the regular season.

Consolo started Pine Bush’s seventh-inning rally with a leadoff double. Catcher Selina Garmendiz had three hits, Bjaelker and Morgan Brady added RBI singles and Chloe Bavolar had a run-scoring double.
