2019 OCIAA Boys Tennis: Gabe Castillo-Sanchez repeats as singles champion, Cornwall’s Suri and Webber doubles champions

Gabe Castillo-Sanchez described his first match Friday morning in the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association semifinal as, “a little different.”

Standing on the other side of the net from the Washingtonville junior and defending champion was his brother, Lucas, a seventh-grader, making his OCIAA tournament debut.

Gabe won the first-ever competitive meeting between the brothers 6-0, 6-1. He defeated Newburgh Free Academy sophomore Troy Steiner 6-0, 6-1 in the final to collect his second straight singles title.

Cornwall’s Gurv Suri and Will Webber may be new to the doubles ranks. However, Webber’s experience and Suri’s rising talent made for a winning combination competing as wild-card team. Webber won his second straight OCIAA doubles title as he and Suri defeated Newburgh Free Academy brothers Arnav Shah and Aarav Shah 6-4, 7-5, 6-1 in the final.

Interviews with Gabe Castillo and Suri and Webber are below the results.
