Hopkins, Riley named to preseason watch lists

Army quarterback Kelvin Hopkins was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List and cornerback Elijah Riley was named to the Bednarik Award Watch List on Monday. The Maxwell Award is for the top all-around player and the Bednarik Award rewards the best defensive player. Both rising seniors are coming off career seasons. Hopkins was the first Army player to throw and rush for 1,000-plus yards. Riley wrapped up his 2018 campaign with 55 total tackles.

Both watch lists were comprised of 80 players. The Maxwell Award Watch List included 37 quarterbacks. The Bednarik Award Watch List had 12 cornerbacks.

Riley was also named in Athlon Sports’ Top 50 Underrated Players for 2019.

In Sports Illustrated’s Top 100 players of the 2019 season, no Army players made the cut.
