Cross country: Local all-state selections

Cornwall’s Karrie Baloga was named the girls cross country freshman of the year by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Baloga earned Class A first-team, all-state honors Friday. The freshman, who placed third in the Northeast regional and fourth at the state Class A championship, is competing in the Foot Locker Nationals Saturday in San Diego 

Warwick senior Behailu Bekele-Arcuri also received Class A first-team honors. Bekele-Arcuri, the state Class A champion, won four Section 9 titles., 

Monticello senior Steve Bello and Mount Academy sophomore Ike Blough made the Class B first team.

Class A: First team – Behailu Bekele-Arcuri (Warwick, Sr.);  Third team – Andrew Yi (Monroe-Woodbury, Sr.); Fourth team – Justin Vreeland (Cornwall, Jr.)
Class B: First team – Ike Blough (Mount Academy, Soph.), Steve Bello (Monticello, Sr.); Second team – Evan Waterton (Monticello, Soph.); Third team – Fred Goodwin (Mount Academy, Jr.); Fourth team – Travis Meier (Mount Academy, Sr.), Tristan Moody (Mount Academy, Sr.); Fifth team – Riley Brutvan (New Paltz, Jr.); Honorable mention: Stuart Fischli (Mount Academy, Sr.)

Class C: Fourth team – Harry Marson (James I. O’Neill, Jr.); Honorable mention: Adam Furman (Tri-Valley, Fr.), Daniel Rush (Tri-Valley, Sr.)

Class A:
First team – Karrie Baloga (Cornwall, Fr.); Fourth team – Sarah Trainor (Roosevelt, Sr.); Fifth team – Evelyn Gonzalez-Valle (Monroe-Woodbury, Sr.); Honorable mention – Claire Kelly (Cornwall, Jr.); Leah Smith (Monroe-Woodbury, Fr.)
Class B: Third team – Kayla Schramm (Goshen, Soph.); Honorable mention – Meghan O’Donnell (Goshen, Jr.)
Class C: Third team – Leah Richardson (James I. O’Neill, Fr.)
