2020 Eastern States Classic seeds: Pine Bush’s Tommy Askey No. 1 at 152 pounds

Pine Bush senior Tommy Askey is lone Section 9 wrestler to earn a top seed for the 18th Eastern States Classic Friday and Saturday at SUNY Sullivan in Loch Sheldrake.

Askey, who will compete at 152 pounds, enters the tournament with a 22-0 record, including first-place finishes at the Mid-Hudson and Shoreline Classic. Only four of Askey’s matches have lasted the full six minutes. Askey has 10 pins and eight wins by technical fall.

Minisink Valley seeded 11 wrestlers including No. 2 Zack Ryder (126) and Adam Fenner (285).

Newburgh Free Academy senior Maxx DeCapua, the third seed at 220 pounds, has 199 career victories and should become the seventh Section 9 wrestler to join the 200-win club this weekend. DeCapua placed eighth in 2019 and sixth in 2018 at 195 pounds.
