Boys Basketball: State-ranked, Kingston-NFA clash

Kingston, the state’s No. 6 team, travels to No. 8 Newburgh Free Academy for a Class AA showdown tonight at 6 p.m.

Kingston has started the season 10-0 and returns one starter – junior guard Shy’quan Royal from last season’s state Class AA semifinal team.

Junior guard Clayton Pattillo leads Kingston in scoring at 17.6 points per game and has scored 21 or more points in four games this season. Royal, a junior guard, is averaging 17.2 points, and senior guard Brady Short, who missed Kingston’s win over Washingtonville last week with an injury, is scoring at 16.3 points per game for the Tigers.

Newburgh Free Academy (7-1) has defeated Baldwin, Fordham Prep and Christian Brothers Academy in non-league games this season. The Goldbacks’ only loss is to Don Bosco Prep 72-64, the No. 8 in all classes in New Jersey.

Chester (8-0) is the area’s only other ranked team at No. 8 in Class B. Chester senior Kevin Stein needs 14 points to reach 1,000 for his career. The Hambletonians host James I. O’Neill in a key OCIAA Division IV game tonight.
