Boys Hoops State Rankings: NFA jumps into Top 5

Newburgh Free Academy vaulted into the top 5 in the state Class AA rankings under the strength of its 58-49 win over Kingston, previously No. 6, last week.

The Goldbacks (9-1) are the highest-ranked, non-private and non-city school in the poll at No. 5 up from No. 8 last week.

Kingston (11-1), which defeated Troy 51-48 Monday, fell to No. 9.

Chester (10-0) moved up to No. 6 in Class B. Kevin Stein, who scored his 1,000th point last week, and the Hambletonians look to keep their perfect season alive against Goshen Friday. Stein is averaging 19.6 points per game.

Minisink Valley (10-2) are ranked 28th in Class A. The Warriors posted division wins over Monticello and Goshen last week. Junior Alex Krupinski leads Minisink Valley in scoring at 16.8 points.
