Stuart Robinson, new NYU AD, will step down as New Paltz coach

Varsity 845 2020 Boys Basketball coach of the year Stuart Robinson was named New York University’s athletic director Thursday.

Robinson, who led New Paltz to the last three Section 9 Class A titles, will step down as the school’s basketball coach. He informed his players of the decision earlier this week. Robinson won 75 games in six seasons for the Hugeonots.

New Paltz was primed for a four-peat in 2021 with the return of four junior starters from team’s 17-7 season.

Robinson leaves SUNY New Paltz after 20 years as its athletic director. His hiring is effective on August 3 and he will replace Christopher Bledsoe, who retired after 23 years.

Robinson served on the NCAA Division III championship and infraction committees while at SUNY New Paltz. He is the all-time wins leader for SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer, earning 96 victories in 15 seasons on the sideline.
