Kingston has rematch with Mount Vernon
Kingston will play Section 1 champion Mt. Vernon 1 p.m. Saturday at West Point in the state quarterfinals.
Kingston defeated Mt. Vernon, 58-55, last year in the state quarters. Kingston trailed that game by six with about five minutes to play before Rachel Coffey and Charlise Castro took over down the stretch. Castro scored six straight points [...]

Kingston routs Minisink
This is the Kingston team I’ve been waiting to see this season. The scary thing is they probably could’ve played better offensively, but the defense did all the dirty work in the 53-34 win over Minisink in the Class AA championship game.
Rachel Coffey was sensational and Ariana Parker’s defense on Melissa Rivera was exceptional. And [...]

Cornwall, Highland post impressive wins
I just wanted to share my thoughts on Sunday’s section games:
Cornwall-Wallkill:I have been waiting a couple of years to see this matchup, but it didn’t live up to the expectations.
I knew Cornwall was good, and they’ve always been one of the best defensive teams in the section.
But Cornwall’s performance against Wallkill Sunday was very, very impressive.
That [...]

Nice win by Wallkill…plays Cornwall for the title
I just got back from the Wallkill-Red Hook game. Wallkill defeated Red Hook 56-38 behind the play of Shelby Brochetti and Sara Bender. Wallkill will play Cornwall for the title 11 a.m. Sunday at SUNY New Paltz. I’ve been looking forward to that matchup for the past two years. Wallkill has been waiting for this [...]

Pre-game thoughts on Red Hook-Wallkill
There are a couple of big games on the schedule tonight. Warwick is playing Minisink in the Class AA semi and Red Hook travels to Wallkill for a Class A semifinal. Cornwall is hosting Goshen in the other Class A semi and Monroe is playing Kingston in the other Class AA semi.
I chose to go [...]

Highland-Ellenville afterthoughts
I was hoping for a close game, and I got one. The last five minutes of the game were really exciting after Ellenville fought all the way back to take the lead. Ellenville guard Zoraida Castillo had two wide-open 3-pointers in the final eight seconds, but they both rimmed out as Highland held on for a 44-41 [...]
