Vassar wins Valley Shootout
Vassar College improved to 5-1 and won the Hudson Valley Shootout for the fourth year in a row with a 73-61 men’s basketball victory over Mount Saint Mary in the championship game played at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson on Wednesday night. Tyson Brazell had 18 points and six rebounds to lead Vassar.

Marist men win defensive tussle with Bucknell
Defense was the name of the game as Marist posted one of its finest defensive efforts in school history on Wednesday night.
Marist beat Bucknell, 55-40, setting a Division I school record for its fewest points allowed against a NCAA Division I opponent since the program moved up to that level in 1981-82.

Three Army soccer players honored for academics
Army’s soccer teams had three of its members honored as academic All-Americans in the university division.
Junior Sarah Goss was a second-team choice in women’s soccer. She posted a 4.06 grade point average with a major of Medical Engineering.

New Paltz’s Becofsky honored for class work
SUNY New Paltz senior Katie Becofsky is talented on the volleyball court and smart in the classroom. The Hawks’ setter was named a second team academic all-american in the college division. Becofsky posted a 3.94 grade point average with a double major of Psychology and Communications.

Women’s lacrosse returns to SUNY New Paltz
SUNY New Paltz has reinstated its women’s lacrosse program and will begin play as the 10th member of the SUNY Athletic Conference in spring 2009. The school hopes to have a coach in place by January, said spokeswoman Janelle Feuz.
