Kahmar SUNY Sullivan first wrestling coach

Jared Kahmar, who coached four state finalists in two seasons (2008-09) at Port Jervis, was officially named SUNY Sullivan’s first  wrestling coach Tuesday.

Kahmar’s job is build a program from scratch. SUNY Sullivan fields its first team in the 2013-14 season.

Sullivan is the fourth junior college in the state to offer wrestling. Nassau, Jamestown and Niagara have established teams.

Kahmar, 35, will attempt to fill out Sullivan’s roster with local talent.

Kahmar’s top recruit could be Deon Edmond, a 2013 Kingston graduate and two-time Section 9 champion. Edmond confirmed he is interested in attending SUNY Sullivan this fall.

Sullivan’s schedule in its inaugural season could be filled with open tournaments and matches against Division III schools.
