Preseason honor for Early

Wichita State senior forward Cleanthony Early, a Middletown resident, was named the Missouri Valley Conference preseason player of the year Wednesday (Oct. 30).

Early helped lead the Shockers to a 30-win season and a Final Four berth as a No. 9 seed in his first season at Wichita State last season. He was also selected to the league’s preseason first team. Early, who is 6-foot-8, averaged 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds in the 2012-13 season. He scored 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 72-68 semifinal loss to Louisville, the eventual national champion.
