Cornwall’s Mike White a Marist football captain

Cornwall graduate Mike White was named as one of four team captains at Marist College for the 2017 season. Joining the quarterback are running back Marcellus Calhoun, linebacker Ruben Avalos III and safety Wesley Beans.
White will be a red-shirt junior, having started the past two seasons. He has thrown for 5,495 yards and 35 touchdowns. Last season he set single-season marks for completions (203) and passing yards (2,931), and earned second-team All-Pioneer Football League honors.
Calhoun, a two-time PFL honorable mention all-star pick, is captain for a second team. He has 1,253 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns for his career. Avalos posted 70 tackles and a sack in 11 starts last season. Beans led Marist with 77 tackles and six interceptions.
Marist opened spring practice on Wednesday, with its next session on Friday. The Red-White Spring Game is April 22 at 6 p.m. at Tenney Stadium.
