College football notebook: Garcia off to fast start at Hartwick

Hartwick senior wide receiver Brad Garcia, a Warwick graduate, is tied for second in Division III in touchdown receptions.

Garcia caught his eighth touchdown of the season, a 20-yard pass, in Hartwick’s 31-30 loss to Cortland Saturday. He had 18 catches for 383 yards in Hartwick’s first three games. Garcia’s career numbers are impressive –  190 catches, 3,570 yards, 33 touchdowns in 31 games.

Towson sophomore kicker Aidan O’Neill (New Paltz) is the STATS Football Championship Subdivision special teams player of the week after hitting a 42-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Tigers to a 16-14 win over St. Francis (Pa.) Saturday. O’Neill connected on a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 38-yarder with 3:49 left in the game.

Johns Hopkins senior running back Ryan Cary (Marlboro) scored his 20th and 21st career rushing touchdowns in a 37-7 win over Moravian Saturday.

Defending Division I-AA champion James Madison and senior quarterback Bryan Schor (Delaware Valley, Pa.) continue to roll. Schor threw for 149 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 54 yards and a score in two quarters  of play in a 75-14 victory over Norfolk State Saturday. James Madison, ranked No. 1 in Division I-AA, has won 15 straight games.
