Men’s lacrosse: Patriot League playoff scenarios; Army in trouble

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Seeding Scenarios

Navy (6-1 PL): If Navy wins against Army West Point (Navy’s last League game) and Loyola Maryland and Bucknell both lose on Saturday the Mids to secure the No. 1 seed and regular-season championships. In the three-way scenario (at the end of the season) with Navy, Loyola Maryland and Bucknell (if they win out), Loyola Maryland would have the advantage due to goal differential among the three schools in games against each other, followed by Navy at No. 2 and Bucknell at No. 3. If Navy, Bucknell and Loyola Maryland remain with one loss after Saturday’s games we will need to wait for outcome of the 4.20 games.
Games Remaining: at Army West Point (4.14), at Syracuse (4.21)
Defeated: Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh
Lost to: Loyola Maryland

Bucknell (5-1 PL): Bucknell currently sits at second in the standings since they defeated Loyola Maryland (12-11) in late March. Bucknell could take the No. 1 spot in the tournament if they defeat both Lafayette and Lehigh, and Navy falls to Army West Point. In the three-way scenario (at the end of the season) with Navy, Loyola Maryland and Bucknell (if they win out), Loyola Maryland would have the advantage due to goal differential among the three schools in games against each other, followed by Navy at No. 2 and Bucknell at No. 3. If Navy, Bucknell and Loyola Maryland remain with one loss after Saturday’s games we will need to wait for outcome of the 4.20 games.

Loyola Maryland (5-1 PL): As of now, Loyola Maryland is in the third spot in the standings. The Greyhounds are tied with Bucknell at 5-1 and if they stay tied the Bison would own the tiebreaker since they defeated Loyola Maryland, 12-11, in March. In the three-way scenario (at the end of the season) with Navy, Loyola Maryland and Bucknell (if they win out), Loyola Maryland would have the advantage due to goal differential among the three schools in games against each other, followed by Navy at No. 2 and Bucknell at No. 3.. If Navy, Bucknell and Loyola Maryland remain with one loss after Saturday’s games we will need to wait for outcome of the 4.20 games. If Loyola Maryland wins and Bucknell and Navy drop, the Greyhounds will clinch a quarterfinal home game.

Lehigh (5-2 PL): Lehigh is currently in fourth with a 5-2 record in conference play. Lehigh is not in League action this weekend as they play Cornell on Saturday and guaranteed to finish no lower than fourth.

Defeated: Army West Point, Boston University, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette
Lost to: Loyola Maryland, Navy

Colgate (2-4 PL): Colgate, Boston University and Army West Point are all tied at 2-4 going into this weekend. Since Colgate beat Boston U. and Army West Point they would hold the tiebreaker in the standings. Colgate can clinch a spot in the tournament Saturday with a win over Holy Cross, and losses by Boston U. (vs. Loyola Maryland) and Army West Point (vs. Navy).
Games Remaining: vs. Holy Cross (4.14), at Lafayette (4.20)
Defeated: Army West Point, Boston University
Lost to: Lehigh, Loyola Maryland, Navy

Boston University (2-4 PL): Colgate, Boston University and Army West Point are all tied at 2-4 going into this weekend. Since Colgate beat Boston U. and Army West Point they would hold the tiebreaker in the standings. Boston U. would come next in the standings since they defeated Army West Point.
Games Remaining: at Loyola Maryland (4.14), at Holy Cross (4.20)
Defeated: Army West Point, Lafayette
Lost to: Bucknell, Colgate, Lehigh, Navy

Army West Point (2-4 PL): The Black Knights need to finish ahead of either Boston U or Colgate in the standings to make the tournament. Colgate, Boston University and Army West Point are all tied at 2-4 going into this weekend. Since Colgate beat Boston U. and Army West Point they would hold the tiebreaker in the standings. Boston U. would come next in the standings since they defeated Army West Point.
Games Remaining: vs. Navy (4.14), at Loyola Maryland (4.20)
Defeated: Holy Cross, Lafayette
Lost to: Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Lehigh

Holy Cross (1-5 PL): If Holy Cross loses to Colgate they will fall to 1-6 and if they win they will bump to 2-5.
Games Remaining: at Colgate (4.14), vs. Boston University (4.20)
Defeated: Lafayette
Lost to: Army West Point, Bucknell, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland, Navy

Lafayette (0-6 PL): The Leopards cannot make the tournament.
