DeForest solid in first round of NCAA Division I championship
Illinois freshman Chris DeForest, a 2007 Rondout Valley graduate, shot
a 3-over-par 75 and is tied for 23rd at the NCAA Division I
championship at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex’s Kampen Course in West
Lafayette, Ind. Wednesday.
DeForest had four birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey. He trails
first-round leader Kevin Chappell of UCLA by by five shots.

Herdegen tournament coming soon; C. DeForest update
It’s the tournament, which always sneaks up on the golf season. It’s
usually held the two weekends after the state boys’ high school golf
championships.
But this year, the Ulster County Men’s Amateur, also known as the
Herdegen, will be played in one weekend. Tournament officials have cut

O’Donnell low IKE qualifier at Otterkill
It’s great to see Mike O’Donnell, a 2002 Goshen graduate, out there going low.
O’Donnell, who won the OCIAA title as a Goshen senior, fired a 1-over-par 73 to pace the field at the Ike-MGA Stroke Play Championship qualifier at Otterkill Golf and Country Club Thursday.

You guess it…Johnson Wagner. The PGA Tour must be making a tour stop in Texas because Wagner, a 1998 James I. O’Neill graduate, is atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Thursday.

Golf & Country Club in Campbell Hall Thursday. The top seven
golfers plus ties will advance to the IKE championship on June 23-24 at

Johnson Wagner is ranked 119th in the world.
The 1998 James I. O’Neill graduate is 29th in the FedEx Cup points standings and 34th on the PGA Tour money list.

New pro at Mansion Ridge
Kieran P. McCarthy is the new golf teaching professional at The Golf Club at Mansion Ridge in Monroe.
McCarthy’s mentor was David Carazo, the golf pro at Tuxedo Club. McCarthy had caddied for Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman.
