Herdegen tournament coming soon; C. DeForest update

It’s the tournament, which always sneaks up on the golf season. It’s
usually held the two weekends after the state boys’ high school golf
championships.

But this year, the Ulster County Men’s Amateur, also known as the
Herdegen, will be played in one weekend. Tournament officials have cut
the event from 72 holes (four round) to 54 holes (three rounds). Also, golfers will be allowed to use motorized carts.

The first round will be played on Friday, June 6 at Wiltwyck Golf Club
in Kingston. The second round is Saturday, June 7 at Twaalfskill Club
and the top 27 golfers will make the cut to the final round, which will
be played on Sunday, June 8 at Rondout Golf Club
in Accord.

A qualifier for non-exempt golfers will be held Saturday at Hudson Valley Resort in Kerhonkson.

Chris DeForest, a 2007 Rondout Valley graduate, is the defending champion.

DeForest and his Illinois teammates are preparing for the NCAA Division
I championships, which will be held Wednesday through Saturday at
Kampen Course, Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.
DeForest will spend his Memorial Day playing a practice round. He tied
for 102nd (21-over 234) at the Division I Central Regional at Ohio
State’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
