MGA Public Links: McHugh tops locals

Tom McHugh, a 2011 Monroe-Woodbury graduate, shot back-to-back rounds of 1-over-par 73 and placed fourth at the Metropolitan Golf Association Public Links Championship at Richter Park Golf Course in Danbury, Conn.

McHugh finished five strokes behind champion Jacob Henry of Oak Hills Golf Club.

Henry shots rounds of 70 and 71.

McHugh sizzled on the back nine of his first round, making five birdies on the last six holes. He had three birdies on the back nine in the second round. By finishing in the top five, McHugh earned an exemption to next year’s Public Links championship.

Jim Kienz of Osiris Country Club, fired a 3-under 69, the second lowest score in the second round. He eagled the par-5, seventh hole. Kienz finished tied for 18th (8-over 152).

Cody Cox, a 2013 Delaware Valley (Pa.) graduate, tied for 35th (84-74-158, 14-over) and Mike Smith of Stony Ford placed 38th (80-79-159, 15-over).
