First-round Herdegen results: Steady Garcia grabs lead

Kingston’s John Garcia shot a 1-over 73 and holds a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Ulster County Men’s Amateur (The Herdegen) at Rondout Golf Club in Accord.
Garcia shot an even-par 35 on the front nine and was 1-over (38) on the back nine.
Woodstock’s Justin Lane fired a 3-under-par 34 on the back nine and stands in second place (3-over 75) heading in the second round Saturday at Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston. First tee time is 11 a.m.
