Powers headed to Met Amateur

David Powers, a 2016 Eldred graduate, qualified for his first Met Amateur, firing a 1-under-par 71 Wednesday at Black Oak Golf Club in Long Valley, N.J.

Powers finished fourth in a field of 59 golfers. The top four golfers advanced to the Met Amateur on August 3-6 at Laurel Links Country Club in Laurel. Powers, who finished 38th at the Ike Championship last week, made three birdies on No. 7, 8 and 13 in his round.

Powers were a member of St. Peter’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship team as a freshman this past spring. He shot an even-par 71 in the final round of the NCAA Division I regional in May at Austin, Texas.
