Stoltz advances in U.S. Open qualifier

Minisink Valley graduate John Stoltz is 36 holes away from playing in his first U.S. Open.

Stoltz fired a 2-under-par 69 to tie for medalist honors at the Open local qualifier at Mount Kisco Country Club Tuesday.

Only five golfers in the field of 80 advances to the 36-hole section qualifying phase.

Stoltz birdied three straight holes (No. 12-14) on the back nine.
