Cody Cox punches ticket to U.S. Amateur

Cody Cox had played 36 holes of competitive golf Monday at Seven Oaks Golf Course in Hamilton.

So, what was two more holes especially with the reward at stake?

Cox birdied the second playoff to captured the third and final qualifying spot for the U.S. Amateur on August 13-19 at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links. He finished in a 36-hole tie at 2-over 146 with Woodstock’s Justin Lane, a three-time Ulster County Amateur champion, and Canada’s Cullen Chung and Tyson Turchanski. Lane and Turchanski made par on the first playoff hole. While, Lane had a bogey and Chung a double bogey. Cox was on the green in two shots on the par-5, second playoff hole. He two-putted for the birdie.

United States Golf Association tournaments are nothing new to Cox. He qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2010 and 2011.
