Perfect weather again at Eastern States, 11:24 a.m.

Saturday morning is just as nice as Friday morning as day two of the Eastern States championships get underway at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown.
The temperatures are a tad bit cooler, in the low 50s, as the morning activities get underway. The sun is out, and there’s a bit more clouds today. You can be sure it will remain chily all day and then be downright cold tonight when the sportsman and pure stock races are held.
The morning heat races for big block modiifed got started just a bit late, but the track has rounded into nice shape early on.

The modified heats went off just as expected. The only incidents took place in heat four (of six) when OCFS regular Kirk Horton rode the wall in turns one and two, doing sizable damage and forcing his team to make quick repairs for Sunday’s consolation races. In the same race, heat leader Mike Kolka appeared to have the steering go away in his car and he drove into the outside wall in turns three and four — Kolka went from a potential 12th starting spot in Sunday’s title race to having to qualify in consolations on Sunday.
