Halftime: S.S. Seward 34, Hammond 22
Seward is 16 minutes from a state title.
Key thing in this one: Seward is simply killing Hammond on the glass, at both ends of the floor. Kathleen Folkl has basically grabbed every rebound opportunity she’s had.
The Spartans have taken care of the basketball, too – they have just five turnovers.
Not as big a Seward crowd [...]

The end of the road
The local basketball season comes to an end this afternoon.
We’re just minutes away from Seward trying to win its first state girls’ hoops title in school history; they take on Potsdam-area champ Hammond in the state Class D final.
Key matchup in this game has to be down low: Seward’s 6-0 Kathleen Folkl, who scored 20 [...]

Snow job
After watching Seward beat Romulus 59-48 to advance to tomorrow’s Class D title game, I chatted with Josh Thomson, my counterpart at The Journal News. We got to talking about how the weather wreaked havoc this weekend and reached this conclusion:
The fact that they played games up here on Friday and Saturday is an absolute [...]

Halftime: Romulus 22, S.S. Seward 15
A few quick thoughts:
Turnovers are killing S.S. Seward; the Spartans already have 13. They’re limiting their offensive possessions; only a cold-shooting Romulus is keeping this one close.
Kathleen Folkl has eight points, but she is not getting enough offensive touches. And when she gets double-teamed, Seward isn’t getting any of its shooters open for her to [...]

S.S. Seward vs. Romulus
Just got to HVCC, where the snow has mercifully stopped falling.
This game is just about to tip off; still wondering how Romulus is going to deal with Kathleen Folkl down low.
Unfortunately, it looks like a lot of Seward folks got stuck in Florida and couldn’t make it. Hopefully, you guys will be able to follow [...]

Ready for tipoff
Rush-Henrietta blew the doors off Colonie in the second half, winning its Class AA semifinal 54-36. This team is good, I can see why they crushed Minisink Valley 65-31 back on Dec. 8.
If Kingston beats North Babylon they’re going to have a tall order in tomorrow night’s championship.
Tipoff is less than a half-hour away. That’ll [...]

Lights out
OK, I’m convinced that the court at HVCC is too dim. I mean, Colonie and Rush-Henrietta, two of the best Class AA teams in the state, put up a combined 39 points in the first half of their semifinal; Rush-Henrietta leads, 22-17.
I asked Lynsey Timbrouck about it. “Nah, it’s not as bad as Pine Bush,” [...]

Crowd? What crowd?
Exhibit A proving all this snow is wreaking havoc: Colonie is a 15-minute drive
from Troy, yet the Colonie side of the stands is barely one-thirds full
for the start of their semifinal against Rush-Henrietta. It’s so quiet you can hear
the refs call out the fouls.
Kingston is watching this game with interest; Colonie blew out the Tigers [...]

Sleeping Tigers?
Kingston is in the building. The Tigers arrived during the third quarter of the Lakeland game.
They were immediately put to sleep, along with everyone else in the gym, watching Lakeland grind its way to a 43-26 win over Harborfields. “This is the most boring game I’ve ever watched,” junior Stephanie McCoy told teammate Lynsey Timbrouck.
