Greetings from Troy
Just got into my hotel room in Troy as I attempt to beat the blizzard that is apparently going to blanket the region tomorrow. Isn’t spring in a few days?
Stopped by S.S. Seward practice before heading up there and saw one of the strangest devices I have ever seen on a court.
It’s called “the gun.” [...]

Tranquil Tigers
Went to Kingston practice today to work on the preview of their state
Class AA semifinal against North Babylon – check my stuff out in
Thursday and Friday’s paper.
This team is loose; much looser than they were before the Section 9
final against Minisink Valley. They don’t know much about the North
Babylon team they’re facing and that’s fine [...]

Monday morning musings
Back to work after a day off. Same goes for Kingston after reaching the first state final four in school history on Saturday – the party’s over. The Tigers are headed to Troy, along with S.S. Seward in Class D
Kingston’s semifinal opponent is a toughie: North Babylon’s only loss this year came to state power Murry [...]

Halftime: Kingston 27, White Plains 20
Real good first half for the Tigers, who are spreading the offense around; sixth man Shataya McComb already has seven points. It’s obvious that White Plains miss leading scorer Kim Adams, they’re shooting just 7-for-25 from the floor.
Winner plays Long Island champ North Babylon in the semifinals in Troy. Can Kingston close it out?

T.G.I.F.
Waiting to see if Kingston can join Seward in making the trip to Troy tomorrow…
The Tigers’ opponent, White Plains, has some NBA bloodlines running through the team: Jr. F Angelei Aguirre is the daughter of ex-Piston and current Knicks assistant coach Mark Aguirre, while Jr. G Paige Sprewell is the daughter of ex-Knick bad boy [...]

Position puzzle
Watching Burke lose a heartbreaker last night crystallized something I see a lot in HS basketball – especially on the girls’ side: players out of position because of height.
Emily Stallings may be listed as a center. But really, she’s not. Sure, she’s got some post moves, but she also handles the ball and passes like [...]

Woe for White Plains
Just got an injury update from Josh Thomson, who’s been covering White Plains for The Journal News: senior G Kim Adams, who dislocated her shoulder in an opening-round win last night, is out for the rest of the season.
That’s a big blow for White Plains; and definitely improves Kingston’s chances on Saturday.

Quarterfinal schedule change
Just got this info from Section 9 basketball chairman Ken Rubino:
Saturday’s Class AA quarterfinal between Kingston and White Plains has been moved to 2:30 p.m. The Class C quarterfinal (4:30 p.m.) and Class B quarterfinal (6 p.m.) remain unchanged.

Tiger vs. Tiger
Kingston will face White Plains in Saturday’s Class AA quarterfinal at
SUNY New Paltz; the Section 1 champs with the same nickname beat
Section 4 champ Union-Endicott 53-35 last night.
But the Tigers might get a bit of a break against the team that knocked
them out of the 2005 state tourney: White Plains senior G and
1,000-point scorer Kim [...]
