Local boxers advance, wait

Orlando DelValle, the Newburgh Boxing Club star with a ton of potential, had his pro debut scheduled for this past Friday canceled. According to the DelValle camp, he wasn’t able to get a physical in time after being told too late that he’d need one. No makeup has been set, but he’s expected to enter the ring within a month.

Two NBC fights advanced in the preliminaries of the Daily News Golden Gloves’ 141-pound novice division on Thursday. Newburgh’s Martin Murphy won by second-round TKO and Middletown’s Jose Bonilla won by third-round TKO. They will fight again on Feb. 28 in the Bronx. Tre’sean Johnson received a bye in the same weight class.

Another NBC boxer, Newburgh’s Hershel Edwards, will fight in the Gloves’ 132-pound novice division on Wednesday in Queens.
