Working extra on the Irish

Notre Dame is not having the kind of season that will stir the passion of most college football fans, but the Fighting Irish faithful are loyal watchers and they will have a bonanza to choose from as Southern California visits South Bend for a Saturday afternoon showdown.

NBC Sports will televise the game at 3:30 p.m., and the pregame show will get underway at 3 o’clock. Tom Hammond and Pat Haden will provide the call of the game.

NBC has allowed the NFL Network to produce the halftime show. The team of Rich Eisen, Steve Mariucci, Marshall Faulk and Deion Sanders will provide analysis from the first half, and also cover news from the NFL. NBC’s Cris Collinsworth, who also works games on the NFL Network, will preview the Sunday Night Football game between the Steelers and Broncos.

If you still can’t get enough of Notre Dame football, turn on the computer and click on NBCSports.com. From 2:20-3 p.m., and again for 40 minutes following the broadcast, NBC Sports will produce special webcasts. The post-game show will include coach Charlie Weis’ press conference. Also, NBCSports.com will show a live performance by the Notre Dame Marching Band.

NBCSports.com is also offering a replay of the entire 2005 meeting between USC and Notre Dame, a game won by the Trojans as quarterback Matt Leinart directed a heart-stopping drive.
