Free Yankees games will air on WWOR

The New York Yankees have agreed to air 21 games on WWOR-TV, Channel 9, for the 2008 season. The games will be produced by the YES Network, the primary rights holder. YES will carry about 125 games, and about 10 games will likely be shown by Fox and ESPN.

The Yankees have aired games, mostly on Friday nights, on Channel 9 from 2005-2007.

For you history buffs, the Yankees made their broadcast home on WPIX Channel 11 from 1951 (some say 1948) to 1998, on WNYW Channel 5 from 1999-2001 and on WCBS Channel 2 from 2002-04. The Yankees’ cable homes have included SportsChannel from 1981-1988, the Madison Square Garden (MSG) Network from 1989-2001 and the Yes Network (2002-present).
