Cowher staying put at CBS
It’s time to settle down for fans of NFL teams with coaching vacancies — Bill Cowher is staying put at CBS.
On Sunday afternoon the former Pittsburgh Steelers coach told the audience on CBS’ pregame show, The NFL Today, that he will return to the CBS studio show for the 2009-10 season. The New York Jets and Cleveland Browns were two of the teams most interested in talking to Cowher for his services.
“It’s a privilege and an honor to be a head coach in the National Football League,” said Cowher, who has worked the CBS studio show for the past two seasons. “And I have been flattered about the attention, but the timing right now is not right. I don’t plan on coaching next year.”
Cowher said he is taking it year-by-year, and he is happy being part of the network’s announce team that will call Super Bowl XLIV in 2010 in Miami.
