ESPN/ABC shake up college football announce teams
ESPN has jumbled a few of its announcer pairings for its massive college football schedule this season. Here’s a rundown of what to expect.
The ABC Saturday primetime game has no change with Brent Musburger, Kirk Herbstreit and reporter Lisa Salters.
The ESPN Saturday primetime game will now have Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge and reporter Erin Andrews. Nessler was calling top games on ABC last season.
The ESPN Thursday primetime game will remain in the hands of Chris Fowler, Jesse Palmer, Craig James and Erin Andrews.
Mike Patrick, who often worked the ESPN Saturday night game, will team with Craig James and reporter Heather Cox on ABC afternoon contests.
Another new team has Sean McDonough, Matt Millen and reporter Holly Rowe on ABC afternoon contests.
Dave Pasch joins Bob Griese and Chris Spielman for the ESPN noon telecasts.
Mark Jones and Bob Davie have the assignment for the ESPN2 Saturday primetime games.
The midweek ESPN and ESPN2 games will continue to be called by Rece Davis, Mark Mary, Lou Holtz and reporter Rob Stone.
Ron Franklin and Ed Cunningham will be assigned to either ABC or ESPN Saturday afternoon games. Pam Ward and Ray Bentley will call ESPN2 Saturday afternoon games. Two more pairings have Joe Tessitore and Rod Gilmore on Friday night games on ESPN or ESPN2, and Terry Gannon with David Norrie on Saturday games on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
With many of the Army football home games likely slated for midday starts, expect Clay Matvick and David Diaz-Infante behind the mic for the noon ESPNU contests.
Also on ESPNU, Todd Harris and Charles Arbuckle will call Saturday afternoon games, and CBS College departee Carter Blackburn will get the later-afternoon contest with an analyst to be named.
As far as the studio shows go, it will be Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard on ESPN College GameDay; John Saunders and Jesse Palmer on College Football Countdown (pre-game, halftime, post-game) on ABC; Rece Davis, Lou Holtz and Mark May on College Football Final on ESPN; and, Wendi Nix, Todd McShay and Robert Smith on ESPN2’s pre-game, halftime and postgame shows.
