Federer-Roddick Wimby final drew big numbers
The Wimbledon gentlemen’s singles final between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick produced riveting tennis and outstanding ratings numbers, especially in the New York market.
The Sunday match was the most-viewed men’s final in 10 years with an average of 5.71 million viewers. The 1999 final between Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi drew an average of 5.8 million, and the 2008 rain-delayed final between Federer and champion Rafael Nadal drew an average of 5.17 million.
The 3.8 national rating and 10 share was the best Wimbledon men’s result since the 2000 final between Sampras and Patrick Rafter drew a 4.4 rating and 14 share.
The New York market was the second-best in the nation with a 6.0 rating and 17 share, surpassed only by West Palm Beach with its 8.1 and 18.
