Rangers, Knicks to each appear on WPIX-11 twice

Most sports fans take for granted that you have to pay cable television in order to watch the majority of live TV games.
This month, at least, Knicks and Rangers fans will get an opportunity to watch two games on free TV. WPIX (Channel 11) will present MSG Network presentations of the Jan. 9 Knicks at Houston, Jan. 16 Rangers at St. Louis, Jan. 23 Rangers at Montreal and Jan. 31 Knicks at Minnesota games. The games will be later replayed on MSG Network on the same evening.
The notion of placing games on WPIX is good business. It exposes the product to the free TV, since not all fans can afford to buy cable. It also avoids having to search through the spillover channels on cable which may carry MSG overflow programming.
