College hockey could receive a huge boost with a proposed series to appear on Versus starting next season.
A high-ranking college hockey official told me that the commissioners of the five leagues were in talks with Versus for a game of the week package, likely on Friday nights. The hope was each conference would receive at least two games — with Atlantic Hockey as the “little brother” of the five leagues, that would be a relief to get two national games.
CBS Sports Network (formerly CBS College and CSTV) have aired weekly contests on Friday and/or Saturday nights for a number of years, and ESPNU has televised some games, notably on Sunday afternoons in recent years.
A move to Versus would be outstanding. College hockey is in need of national exposure, and the cross-promotion with an aggressive NHL schedule on the network would serve nicely.
