NHL TV schedule includes lots of Rangers games

The National Hockey League will receive its best showcase on American television in the coming season.
NBC Sports and Versus/NBC Sports Channel will present 100 regular-season games, and all playoff games will appear on one of the NBC Sports Group channels next spring.
NBC will televise 12 games (all but three on Sundays), starting with a Thanksgiving Black Friday afternoon edition as the Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins host the Detroit Red Wings. The very popular NHL Winter Classic outdoor game will feature the Rangers visiting the Philadelphia Flyers on January 2. The other highlight is the second “Hockey Day in America” showcase on February 19, with three regional games (using staggered starts) followed by a national telecast as Boston visits the Minnesota Wild.
The Rangers will appear on NBC twice, with three more games to appear on either NBC or NBC Sports Network once the flex games are determined.
Versus carried exclusive games on Monday and Tuesday nights last season, and now the network adds exclusive games on Wednesday nights, plus Sunday night games following New Year’s. Versus will be re-named NBC Sports Network on January 2. The Rangers will appear 12 times on Versus/NBC Sports Net, the Devils seven times and the Islanders once.
The NHL Network will telecast 78 games on its U.S. network, a steep increase over last season. In 2010-11, the NHL Network usually carried the opener of the CBC Hockey Night in Canada twinbill at 7 p.m. and one mid-week game. This season, there will be additional Saturday afternoon games and telecasts on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Twenty of those games on NHL Network will be blacked out in the New York market, though. The Rangers will make 16 appearances, the Devils will appear three times and the Islanders get one TV game.
Locally, MSG Networks will televise all Rangers, Devils and Islanders games not aired on exclusive national telecasts. The local schedules will be released in September, according to an MSG Network spokesman on Friday.
