President’s acceptance speech prompts shift of Giants’ NFL opener

Candidate Barack Obama said he could get the sea levels to drop. As President of the United States, now he can get the NFL to move an all-important game.
The new NFL Kickoff contest has been shifted from its traditional Thursday date to Wednesday, Sept. 5, so as to avoid a conflict with the President’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday.
The Super Bowl champion New York Giants will host the 8:30 p.m. game on NBC against an opponent still to be determined.
