Free hockey preview … well, almost (for Verizon)

Now that the National Hockey League has started the 2014-15 season, hockey fans can thank their lucky stars.
The NHL Center Ice subscription package, presented by InDemand, has been offered to cable and dish customers for a free preview from Oct. 8 through Oct. 25. That means all customers can watch up to 40 games per week of NHL action – outside of the Rangers, Islanders and Devils games, which will be blacked out in our region. The free preview games will be available on the standard definition channels of NHL Center Ice, not the high definition channels. If you like what you see, you can purchase the package for an early bird rate before the costs go up later this month.
One unfortunate note: Customers of Verizon FiOS will only receive six days of free preview action, on the Friday-Saturday-Sunday weekends of Oct. 10 and Nov. 7. Apparently, Verizon didn’t think hockey fans would mind being cut out of free action that other cable customers will be receiving, and that the company has provided to its own customers for the past several years. Thanks, Verizon.
