I Heart “Glee”

This past week’s “Glee” was good but also a bit weird. I’m not sure if the weirdness was from the various “mash-ups” throughout or Will’s version of “Bust A Move” and “The Thong Song”. Either way it was still a cool drink of water in the ever expanding wastelands of TV.

Quite a few absurd moments during this episode. Ken’s request that Will mash-up “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “The Thong Song”, Will’s dance routine while singing “The Thong Song” to meringue-clad Emma and especially Sue Slyvester’s zoot suit were just wacky!

Ken’s request was deliciously absurd and a perfect way to explain Ken and Emma’s whole relationship.

Sue Slyvester’s brief love affair gave us a chance to glimpse Bizarro Sue. She was so happy, understanding and almost human. Watching her dance lesson with Will was a trip!

Anyone else notice Sue’s wardrobe when she’s particularly evil? Her track suit is usually completely black with no markings. I consider it her Darth Vader mode. It’s what she was wearing when she cruelly dropped poor preggers Quinn from the Cheerios.

I was excited to see Rachel and Puck together. It was interesting pairing and they had great chemistry. It seems we have a four sided love triangle going on. Rachel wants Finn who is with Quinn, the object of Puck’s affections.

It was great to see the softer and sweeter side of Puck while he was wooing Rachel. Loved his “Sweet Caroline”. He’s just that bad boy that good girls want to rescue. Looking forward to more Puck in the future.

While Sue was twitterpated it seems that the villain of the episode became a large grape slushy. Several times the grape slushy would smoothly glide through the halls looking for it’s next victim while the usual recipients wearily watched it find the unsuspecting.

Finn, Quinn and Puck all fall victim to “slushy facials” due to their recent drop in social stature. Seems pregnancy and joining Glee Club isn’t so good for social standings.

Rachel washing out Puck’s hair was another fab moment. Loved how he apologized to her for nailing her with slushies in the past.

Later Ken makes the football kids choose between football and Glee. Only Finn chooses football and later shows up in the hallways with a large grape slushy reluctantly seeking a target. Kurt, wearing one of the cutest rain gear outfits ever, takes it out of Finn’s hands and douses himself. He then asks Finn if any of his football buddies would have ever done something like that for him.

Finn comes to his senses and returns to Glee Club, but not before one of his great quotes. While Will is trying to convince Finn how important defining moments are Finn comes out with “I don’t think one moment defines your life, unless you invent some kind of zombie virus”. That one might end up on my fridge!

I’m so happy that “Glee” has turned into one of this season’s bona fide hits. Signs it’s really taken off include scoring permission to use the Madonna music catalog (I want to start a pool on which song they use first), Joss Whedon coming in to direct an episode, talks about an Adam Lambert guest spot and the fact that fans now have their own moniker.

Until next time my fellow Gleeks….
