Maybrook mayor meets with school officials

Maybrook Mayor Dennis Leahy is meeting with school district officials this week to talk about the potential closing of Maybrook Elementary School.

Parents and community members have been calling out to the newspaper and elected officials for answers and information about the discussions in the district tied to saving money in a tough budget year.

Leahy said he wants school officials to be aware of new housing developments in the village that could mean an increase in student population in the future. Further, Leahy said he wants to assure that the district is exhausting all options before closing the community school.

Leahy urged all residents to attend the PTO meeting next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Maybrook Elementary School

The district has also tentatively scheduled a community meeting for Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Maybrook Senior Center.
